Simmons: Methane tax vote is first step at undoing ‘whole-of-government’ attack on energy industry
Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma President Brook A. Simmons issued the following statement following U.S. House and Senate disapproval of the Biden administration’s methane emissions fee:
“Repealing the ill-conceived 2022 methane tax is a key step in rolling back the Biden administration’s whole-of-government assault on the U.S. oil and natural gas industry. The methane tax is a job killer. It is bad for U.S. energy security, national security, and the U.S. economy.
“By rejecting the Biden rule, Congress has reaffirmed its commitment to affordable, reliable energy and to the tens of thousands of men and women who make up Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry. We applaud the Oklahoma Congressional Delegation as well as House and Senate leaders who acted quickly to dismantle this job killer.
“Once signed by President Trump, the EPA may not issue a substantially similar rule, giving Congress time to repeal authorization for the tax altogether.”
