Who’s your favorite Oklahoman?
My grandpa. Born in Chattanooga, Okla., in 1916, he was a PFC in the Army during WWII and worked on drilling rigs all over Oklahoma, the Middle East, and Australia. If it wasn’t for my grandpa and, later on, my father, I wouldn’t be where I am at Unit Drilling.
If you could eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pizza Rolls for SURE!
Mountains or beach?
How about a mountain BY the beach?
Have you met anyone famous?
Harrison Ford used to come into my bar in college where I was pouring drinks. He loved his Scotch!
What’s your favorite drink?
Old fashions… but they need to be on the sweeter side! That, or a Diet DP with cherry/vanilla and easy ice from Sonic!
Favorite college team?
Go Pokes!
In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job?
I build relationships with not only customers in hopes to provide them a service with the best iron and people in the industry, but also with individuals and groups outside the industry in an effort to spread the good word about what our people and the product we provide to the world can do.
Favorite band in junior high?
Oh, man. I listened to a lot of different music! Anything from country music to Blink 182, Coldplay, and Nirvana, and back to Dre, Eminem, and Ludacris!
Name of your pet?
We have Goose, our 6-year-old Goldendoodle, and Duck, our 6-month-old Goldendoodle.
What was your first job?
Hauling hay and building fence for my uncle and other families around Okeene. Had to have started doing that for actual money around 13/14?
What was your first car?
I was thankful for the Dobrinski family in Okeene for another one of my jobs as a shop cleaner. They helped me buy my first car, a 1981 Lincoln Town Car. That baby was SWEET!
If you could have dinner with one person, alive or dead, who would it be?
My grandpa for sure. He retired from Unit Drilling and passed long before I started working there. It would be great to be able to eat dinner with him and pops and then take him out to a BOSS rig to show him how far the industry has advanced! I think he would be happy to know that several of his grandkids and one of his great-grandkids have all worked at the U.
What was your favorite TV show as a child?
Ghostbusters! I remember a “Ghostbusters” themed party, and, oh yeah, you bet I got a proton pack!
What’s the number one item you would save from your burning house?
Aside from getting the family and fur babies out, probably my father-in-law’s ashes. Everything else is replaceable!
What is your favorite thing about working in the oil and gas industry?
Hands down, the people. Some of the greatest minds and just flat-out nicest people in the world work in our industry. It’s an honor to work for and alongside these amazing individuals.
What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas. A neighbor and I sunk a 30 ft., 2 7/8” tubular into the center of our cul-de-sac so we could rig a light ring to it that has individual strands that run to all of our neighbors’ house peaks! Each year it’s a big deal with all the kids on the ‘sac’ to raise the canopy and put out the Santa sleigh and ‘Letters to Santa’ mailbox.
What is the best gift you have ever received?
There are two! My wife gave me an Ironman Timex watch that I wore for about 10 years before I had to replace it with another one just like it. The other (also from my wife) is a bottle opener that was made from decommissioned nuclear weapons. SO COOL!
What is the first thing you would do if you won the lottery?
Pay off the house and vehicles and take a long trip somewhere with the family.
Last movie you saw at the theater?
I’m pretty sure it was one for the kids, but I can’t remember which one it was.
What’s your favorite app?
Right now, the NYT Games app. I’m hooked on the mini-crosswords and daily wordle!
